Sorry State of Education

Destroying a nation does not require the use of atomic bombs or the use of long range missiles. It only requires lowering the quality of education and allowing the cheating in the examinations by the students.

Despite the phenomenal growth of higher education system of India, the system in itself is in shambles. With 47 central universities, 365 state public universities, 296 private universities, and 122 deemed universities, more than 1300000 schools but still Indian education system does not compete, on any indicator access, equity, relevance, and quality, with the education system of the developed countries as well as fastest growing economies of the world.

There are so many schools in India where schools is run by just one teacher, Most of the schools are without proper infrastructure, classrooms, toilets, and drinking water (especially public schools)etc.
Majority of state public universities and colleges are merely factories producing thousands of graduates and post graduates every year with the little concern on quality of education. Quality education is comprised in these institutions, as a results majority of graduates / post -graduates lack necessary skill to perform job related activities.

The 2017 Annual Status of Education Report (ASER) by NGO Pratham has come up with shocking revelations. About 25% of youth in the age group of 14 to 18 can no read basic text fluently in their own language. More than half  struggle wit division (3 digit by 1 digit) problems. Only 43% are able to do such problems correctly. Not just this. The survey says most of them even could not even tell time correctly. For the easy task (hour), 83% got it correct. But for slightly harder task (hour and minutes) a little less than 60% got it right.

76% of surveyed youth can not count money correctly. For those who had basic arithmetic skills,  the figure was close to 90%. 56% could add weights correctly in kilograms. For those who have basic math skills, the figure is 76%. 86% could identify the map of India while 64% knew the name of national capital. 79% could tell the which state they lived in while only 42% could point out their state on the map. In today's competitive environment the ability of students to read, write and count is bare minimum. The country can't continue to fail it's children.

We have so many schemes related to education but still, why we have this type of serious problem, It's high time for the government and us as a responsible citizen of this country need to think. We need to make people aware about education because India will become a developed nation only if the quality of the primary and secondary education system is of global repute.

One of the main reasons behind this situation is politician/ bureaucrats and education mafia nexus (I'm not saying all of them but most of them). Officer sitting at the higher positions granting permission to open colleges to those as well who are not following guidelines and rules. Recent example is Lucknow Medical college case.

HG Wells has said, in his Outline of History: "human history becomes more and more a race between education and catastrophe." If we continue to leave vast sections of the people India outside the orbit of education, we make India not only less just, but also less secure.
